• Getting to the Louvre Museum

Paris is enormous but is exceptionally well connected with a network of regional trains RER, an underground or metro system, a fleet of buses, a few tram lines and a hop-on-hop-off boat service.  For details of the transport lines and map: https://www.ratp.fr/en/plans

    METRO

By far the most convenient method to explore Paris is the metropolitan line or METRO.

    • The closest metro to the museums is Palais-Royal / Musée du Louvre (lines 1 and 7) the closest entrance to the museum is the Rue de Rivoli entrance
    • A little further away is Pyramides (line 14)

    BUS

Numerous buses stop near Place du Carrousel, closest to the Carrousel and Pyramid entrances.  Look out for the stop ‘Musee du Louvre’ on the following routes:

    21, 24, 27, 39, 48, 68, 69, 72, 81, 95

  • TAXIS

As with most tourist destinations in Eyurope, you should ensure that you are using a licenced taxi, look for the ‘Taxi Parisien’ sign on the roof.  Licensed taxis should display their badge with license number and have a meter.  You should always avoid asking “how much is it to go to”… because that gives the unscrupulous a chance to name any price and not use the metre.  You can:

Taxi DROP-OFF for the Louvre – designated drop-off area at the Place du Carrousel roundabout.
Taxi PICK-UP for the Louvre – the closest pick-up area is at Place André Malraux.

    CAR

Like all major Capital cities, driving and particularly finding parking in Paris is challenging.  There are a number of paid parking options close to the Louvre, at varying hourly prices.  Booking in advance is highly recommended!  https://www.onepark.com

Visitors with disabilities are entitled to a reduced car park rate – this can be organised at the dedicated area for visitors with special needs under the Pyramid.
